My Story

"Be You" (my online beauty boutique-Beyoumakeupshop) was  named because I wanted this to be a part of something I personally believe in, and that is, essentially, "Be you." Be yourself. We are all different and unique, from the way we walk to the way we talk, our views of the world, our personalities, down to our shoe sizes. often times we wish we would be able to have certain qualities, whether it'd be the perfect body, face, or the straight hair! (well at least it was for me) If there is something about yourself you'd like to change, change it.

If you want to bungee jump, do it. If you want that awesome cool new haircut you have always wanted but is too scare to do it, just do it.

Before creating this shop, I went through a very difficult time in my life, but this shop, creating it, gave me the energy.  I don't know what will happen in life or where my life will go, but I dedicate this to the  2 amazing pillars of my life, my "Ba" and "Ma," my mother and father. I was never into makeup and I never anticipated to do anything in the field, but the best things in life  comes unexpected.

I will always remember my father telling me to take care of myself more, dress better, take care of the skin, but I never really understood why, because I did not care about my physical appearance as I do now. You feel good when you look good (with or without makeup), it's your confidence. Your character, your experiences, your strenghts and weaknesses as an individual, a human being of worth. Lucille Ball said if we want to get anything done, we have to love ourselves, and despite the flaws we have, love yourself to be able to do what you love and to become the person you want to become.

Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I will not reduce myself to just my looks, my physical attributes, my job, my accomplishments or not so accomplishments, I will embrace all that is me! How often, every single day, do we reduce ourselves into certain things and categories? Whenever I see a really confident woman, it's not only about her looks, it's how she carries herself, the way she speaks, her walk, her character that oozes within her, her passion!

Where "Bean You" Came from
( A story I had heard about....)

A certain daughter complained to her father about her life and how things have been so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and she wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed that just as one problem was solved another arose.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen, filled three pots with water and placed the fire on high. Soon the three pots came to a boil. In one he placed carrots, in the other he placed eggs, and the last he placed ground coffee beans. He let them sit and boil, without saying a word.

The daughter sucked her teeth and impatiently wondered what he was trying to do. She had problems, and he was making this strange concoction. In half an hour he walked over to the stove and turned down the fire. He pulled the carrots out and placed them in the bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in the bowl. Then he ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her he asked. “Darling what do you see?
“Smartly, she replied. “Carrots, eggs, and coffee.

He brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Her face frowned from the strength of the coffee.

Humbly, she asked. “What does it mean Father?”

He explained. “Each of them faced the same adversity, 212 degrees of boiling water. However each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. But after going through boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg was fragile. A thin outer shell protected a liquid center. But after sitting through the boiling water, it’s inside became hardened. The coffee beans are unique however. After they were in the boiling water, it became stronger and richer.

Which are you, he asked his daughter? When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?

Are you the carrot that seems hard, but with the smallest amount of pain, adversity, or heat you wilt and become soft with no strength.

Are you the egg, which starts off with a malleable heart? A fluid spirit. But after a death, a divorce, an accident you became hardened and stiff. Your shell looks the same, but you are so bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and heart, internally.

Or are you like the coffee bean? The bean does not get its peak flavor and robust until it reaches 212 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water gets the hottest, it just tastes better.
When things are there worst, you get better. When people talk the most, your praises increase. When the hour is the darkest, trials are there greatest, your worship elevates to another level. How do you handle adversity?
Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?

Fall Season From Around the World

Today has been cloudy and cold, even some rain earlier.  Fall and Winter seems to always bring with them feelings of sadness, don't you think so?

It must be really beautiful in other parts of the world, well the other states even, when leaves transform colors and they fall on your head. Or when you jump over a pile of them and giggle until your stomach hurts. California-eh, not so much. Below are some photos I've found online of amazingly gorgeous of what Fall season is like in other parts of the world.

....Finally, Fall season in Northern California, USA -_- California's Fall and Winter season is nowhere as beautiful as the other states  and the East Coast, but at least our flowers still bloom (like the one below). Our our Springs and Summers are great!

This is the 2nd day I've been wearing The Face Shop Freshian Mascara, yet I keep forgetting to take pictures of the eyelashes instead of myself =(  So far, it does not budge or smudge at all- but then again, this is Fal…

It's been x days of running

This was me roughly 3 weeks ago when I first embarked on my journey to run everyday for 100 days. Before this project, it was difficult for me to complete a 1 mile run or jog, without huffing and puffing, but after 3 weeks, I can make it to 1 mile without wanting to give up. I used to be quite jealous of people who sweat a lot at the gym because I did not have the perseverance to run to the point where I would sweat, I just gave up too easily.

People say if you fully commit yourself to something for 100 days, you'll blown yourself away, you might even be really good at it. To be honest, I have not run everyday since I have started, but I have done the best I can within the last 3 weeks. I should be up to 5 miles/run now, but this is the breaking point. I've jogged up to 4 miles (with a walking break after every mile), but my mentality hasn't been there recently. I run at our local community center and I would watch The Big Bang Theory or Modern Family as I run, but there …

Review: Maybelline's Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner

Maybelline's Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner  in Blackest Black is very creamy and super gentle when applied to the lids, not to mention the brush is definitely a great add in as well. I remember when I first bought the L'oreal Hip Gel Eyeliner, the tiny brush that came with it was super stiff and horrible, but this brush is more flexible and it can be use to fling your winged eyeliners and such. Would I repurchase this product again? Yes, I really want toeggplant.  In terms of staying power, I have really oily lids, so when I had this on the other day, it lasted a lot longer than I thought (although I don't remember how many hours, definitely not 24 though because I could tell part of the liner was fading).  I'm sure if you apply an eye primer base or your concealer, it would last a very long time.    I took this picture right after I bought the product because I was so excited to try it since it had so many wonderful reviews and it does look pretty good. Althou…
